Pitt basketball swamped UPJ in an exhibition game last night at the Petersen Events Center, winning 96-60. The Panthers outscored the Mountain Cats, 48-29, in the first half, then nearly matched that in the second, 48-31.
Blake Hinson and Carlton Carrington each netted 13 points. Ishmael Leggett notched 12 points and four three-pointers.
Pitt opens its regular season Monday night against North Carolina A&T.
COLLEGE BASKETBALL
Legendary college basketball coach Bob Knight died Wednesday at the age of 83, according to a statement from his family. Knight is known for winning three NCAA titles with the University of Indiana and is sixth all-time in wins among Division One Coaches. He was elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1991.
