After suffering three straight losses, the Pirates rebounded with a 4-2 win over the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday.
On the hill, Chad Kuhl earned two strikeouts in three innings of work. Mars-native David Bednar continued his dominant spring out of the bullpen by throwing a perfect frame in the seventh, giving him his sixth scoreless appearance and 11 strikeouts in spring play.
Colin Moran kickstarted the Bucs’ offense in the first inning after driving in Kevin Newman on a double to right. Newman would add an insurance run in the second after reaching on an infield single, and Brian Goodwin and Cole Tucker added two more runs in the third and fourth innings.
Minnesota pulled within two in the ninth after hits by Andrew Romine and former Pirates prospect Drew Maggi, but James Marvel would get the next batter to ground out and end the game.
The Pirates are now 8-7-1 on the spring and will face the Tampa Bay Rays tomorrow at 1 p.m. in Bradenton.
