State Police in Indiana have released the statistics from a recent operation focusing on speeding in construction zones and the steer-clear law.
The program, dubbed “Operation Yellow Jacket” had troopers working in plainclothes in PennDOT trucks with radar speed-tracking equipment during the week of July 22nd to 28th. Police were also on the lookout for those who were violating the state’s “Steer-Clear” law, which has drivers approaching an emergency response area to pass in a lane adjacent to the scene if it’s safe. If it isn’t safe, then drivers should drive “at a reduced and prudent speed” through the emergency scene.
During the week-long enforcement effort, Troopers issued 275 total citations and 85 written warnings. Police issued 108 speeding tickets, 51 steer clear law citations, 9 seatbelt citations, two for child safety sheet violations, and the remaining 105 were for other traffic violations.
“Operation Yellow Jacket” was part of a recent “6-State Trooper project”, which is a collaboration between Pennsylvania State Police, Ohio’s Highway Patrol, Kentucky State Police, Indiana State Police, West Virginia State Police, and Michigan State Police with the goal of enhancing highway safety.
