All was quiet in the Steelers front office yesterday leading up to the NFL Trade Deadline. The team failed to make any trades, although they did come close on acquiring one player: Bears star cornerback Jaylon Johnson.
According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Steelers and Eagles both made a “very strong push” in acquiring Johnson, but the Bears ultimately decided to keep him with 10 minutes before the deadline. Fellow insider Jeremy Fowler tweeted the Steelers were exploring different ways in adding to their depleted secondary.
Rather than focusing on trades, the Steelers centered their attention on preparing for Thursday night’s game against the Tennessee Titans, and they got promising news regarding quarterback Kenny Pickett.
Pickett met with reporters following practice and said he is “playing for sure” tomorrow night, despite suffering a rib injury Sunday that kept him out of the second half. He said bumps and bruises are a part of the game and both Pittsburgh and Tennessee are dealing with injuries on a short week.
Pickett wasted no time in scouting the Titans and he said they have a lot of variety in their playbook.

Defensive lineman Cam Heyward (groin) and running back Anthony McFarland (knee) both practiced in full yesterday. They have less than 21 days to be activated off injured reserve or else they will remain out for the rest of the season. Cornerback Levi Wallace (foot) was limited.
Tomorrow night’s game kicks off at 8:20 p.m. on WDAD 100.3 FM and AM 1450.

Washington traded two defensive assets yesterday. The Commanders sent Montez Sweat to Chicago for a 2024 second-round pick. And Chase Young was sent to San Francisco for a third-round pick.
Minnesota acquired quarterback Josh Dobbs and a conditional seventh-round pick from Arizona in exchange for a sixth-round pick. This is in response to Kirk Cousins’ season-ending torn Achilles injury.
Cleveland dealt wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones to Detroit for a 2025 sixth-round pick.
Las Vegas fired head coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler late Tuesday night. McDaniels struggled since taking over the Raiders last year, carrying a 9-16 record with the team. Linebackers coach Antonio Pierce will serve as interim head coach.
