Pitt basketball coach Jeff Capel will get a first look at his team in in-game action tonight as the Panthers host UPJ for an exhibition game at the Petersen Events Center.
Pitt comes off a 2022 campaign that saw the Panthers post a 24-16 overall record, a 14-6 record in the ACC, and two NCAA tournament victories. They held a closed scrimmage against Georgetown on October 21st and won 78-64.
Capel and his team look to build on the progress from last season, and it even helped them in the offseason with recruiting. He said Pitt is starting to get recognized from its success.
The Panthers are lead by senior forward Blake Hinson, who was a Preseason All-ACC selection after leading the conference with 97 three-pointers this year. Capel expects Hinson to take a big step forward.
Capel also raked in several top high school recruits, including Papa Amadou Kante and Carlton Carrington. Capel says their work ethic will help their transition to the collegiate level.
Pitt will be without Amadou Kante for the season, however, after suffering a knee injury in September.
Tip-off from the Pete is at 7 p.m.
