Indiana County’s unemployment rate dropped during the month of September.
The Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry reports the county’s unemployment rate dropped four-tenths of a percentage point to 4.2 percent. This is slightly higher than the rate recorded in September 2022, which was 4.1 percent.
The state’s unemployment rate was 3.5 percent in September, setting another record for lowest rate on record dating back to January 1976. The national unemployment rate remained at 3.8 percent.
Total nonfarm jobs increased by 1,500 to 28,800 during the month of September. Jobs increased in four of the nine published industry supersectors with the largest being in government due to the start of the new academic year. Meanwhile, jobs in mining, logging, and construction decreased by 300. The other eight supersectors went unchanged since September 2022.
