Marion Center’s long-streak of Heritage Conference dual meet victories in girls’ cross country might have ended this season, but the Stingers’ championship run in District 6 extended to three years on Saturday. Marion Center won its third straight district 1A championship, scoring 91 points in the district championship meet at Reedsville, PA.
The United Lions also scored 91 points, but the Stingers held the tiebreaker. The Lions, however, will be joining the Stingers at the PIAA championship meet, which begins at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Parkview Course in Hershey.
Marion Center was led by senior Lydia Miller, finishing in fourth place with a time of 20:20.60. Macie Miller (21:53.20, 15th), Claire Hood (2:32.00, 22nd), Brooke Slade (22:41.10, 26th), Brynnley Haggerty (22:42.30, 27th), Averi Ruddock (23:10.10, 29th) and Brooke Heigley (24:56.50, 58th) rounded out Marion Center’s top seven.
For United, freshman Olivia Henning came in sixth with a time of 20:47.20. Chloe Stiles (21:43.40,13th), Paiton Steiner (22:08.50, 18th), and Sara Gornick (22:25.10, 22nd), Sierra Oleska (23:27.60, 38th), Jada Walls (24:33.00, 50th), and Hope Fischer (24:44.30, 52nd) rounded out United’s top seven.
Other Heritage Conference top finishers: West Shamokin’s Jasmine Lucullo (20:36.80, 5th), Portage’s Alex Chobany (21:05.30, 8th), Cambria Heights’ Savannah Hoover (21:19.90, 9th), River Valley’s Sara McConnell (22:39.00, 25th), Penns Manor’s Andrea Schwartz (23:21.30, 35th), Purchase Line’s Mikeayla Ryen (23:22.80, 36th), and Homer-Center’s Danielle Uher (24:46.90, 54th).

In boys’ 1A, United was the top finisher among Heritage Conference with 134 points and fourth place. Colton Henning was the Lions’ top finisher (17:26.40, 6th).
