Indiana County’s unemployment increased in the month of June.
According to the state Department of Labor and Industry, Indiana County’s unemployment rate went up six-tenths of a percentage point to 4.9%. That ties Indiana County with three others for the 48th lowest unemployment rate in the state.
Comparing Indiana County to our neighbors, Indiana tied with Armstrong with 4.9% unemployment. The lowest rate was in Westmoreland County at 4.3%. Jefferson had 4.8%, Cambria had 5.0% and Clearfield had 5.1% unemployment. The statewide unemployment for June was 4.3%, down two-tenths of a percent from the previous month.
Total Non-Farm Jobs decreased by 1,500 in June to 30,400. This was mostly due to summer break at IUP.
