The heavy rains that came through the area caused flooding that affected a lot of people on Monday, including those in the Brush Valley area where some water rescues were performed.
Basement pumping details started at noon yesterday in the Center Township area, but more basement pumping calls came in quickly, getting to the point that Indiana County 911 just reported that there were multiple calls. Firefighters from Brush Valley, Coral-Graceton, Armagh/East Wheatefield, Indiana, Pine Township, Homer City, Vintondale, and Clyde were all out Monday afternoon with basement pumping details at some point.
Indiana County 911 reported two water rescues yesterday as well, both in the Brush Valley area. Reports say one was on Camerons Road, and the Indiana County Water Rescue team responded at 2:43 PM. The other was on Route 259 near Yellow Creek State Park at 3:27 PM. Homer City and Brush Valley Fire departments initially responded with Cherryhill Township and the Water Rescue team responding later on. According to the Tribune-Democrat, a woman and a child were trapped on the second floor of a home in the incident near Yellow Creek. No injuries were reported.
The heavy rain also caused some road closures in the area of East Wheatfield Township. One of those road closures was on Route 56 as rain water washed mud across the road near the United School complexes. There’s no update yet on the closure affecting Power Plant Road, so please be careful and allow some extra time in case road crews remain out there.
Tom Stutzman of Indiana County’s Emergency Management Agency said they have not received any damage assessments yet from any municipality. AccuWeather reports that between three and five inches of rain fell in the Southeastern Indiana County area over the last 24 hours.
