Defensive lineman Cam Heyward returned to Steelers practice yesterday for the first time since having surgery for a groin tear after the week one loss to the 49ers. Heyward had an MRI yesterday morning and was cleared to work out with the team, which now has 21 days in which to activate him or lose him for the season. He said he is “taking it day by day and not rushing the process”.
Defensive lineman Larry Ogunjobi sat out with a new shoulder injury. Wide receiver Diontae Johnson was out with a recurrence of his hamstring injury. Cornerback Joey Porter Jr. and fellow corner Levi Wallace were limited, Porter with a calf and Wallace with a foot. Linebacker Cole Holcomb, offensive lineman Nate Herbig, and running back Anthony McFarland were listed on the injury report but all practiced with no limitations.
