There are plenty of opinions about Christian Veilleux’s slide that cost Pitt a chance to run out the clock Saturday and handed Wake Forest a chance to get the football back, which they converted into a game-winning touchdown with nine seconds remaining. The opinion that counts is that of the ACC, which the Tribune-Review says has informed Pitt that the officials’ call that the slide was started before Veilleux reached the first down marker was correct.
Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi, of course, had already moved on from the Wake Forest game by the time of his weekly news conference on Monday. He did, however, say that he thought the slide rule should be reviewed, which might be a bit ironic in light of Kenny Pickett’s controversial fake slide in the ACC championship game in 2021. Narduzzi said “It’s not for an official to determine when (Veilleux) started the slide.”
Pitt plays at Notre Dame on Saturday afternoon.
