Those who take the turnpike this weekend are reminded of some construction that will close a portion of the toll road between New Stanton and Breezewood.
Starting late tonight and running through the overnight hours, crews are going to work on removing a bridge that carries North Center Avenue over the turnpike in nearby Somerset County. This will mean that closures and detours will be in effect in both directions on the turnpike. If you are headed towards Breezewood from New Stanton, the detour will take you on Route 119, toll road 66, US Route 22, I-99 South and US 30 before going back on the turnpike at the Breezewood interchange.
The lengthy detour is recommended by turnpike officials as they feel other routes that are shorter cannot accommodate the increased traffic and heavy trucks that would need to use the roads.
The work is expected to last seven hours.
