Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate hit another all-time low in September.
The state Department of Labor and Industry announced that the statewide seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate went down one-tenth of a percentage point over the month to 3.4% in September, marking the lowest rate since unemployment statistics started being kept in January of 1976. This is also the second straight month that the statewide unemployment rate is below the federal unemployment rate, which was 3.8% for September, going unchanged over the month.
The statewide civilian labor force, which is the estimated number of residents working or looking for work, was down 2000 over the month to 6,497,000. Resident employment went up by 2000 while unemployment fell by 4000.
The total number of non-farm jobs went up 8300 over the month to a new record high of 6,171,600 in September, marking the 9th straight month that jobs have set a new all-time high level. Jobs increased in eight of the 11 industry super sectors, and the largest gain was seen in the education and health services area. That sector and three others also set all-time increases last month.
Indiana county’s statistics are expected to be released next Tuesday.
