The Pirates continued adding depth to their roster Thursday evening, after it was announced that they signed veteran right-handed pitcher Trevor Cahill to a one-year deal.
Cahill, 33, garnered interest from 16 other teams before signing with Pittsburgh, and his deal is said to be worth $1.5 million with an added $1 million in performance bonuses.
In the truncated 2020 season, Cahill pitched in 25 innings as both a starter and reliever for the San Francisco Giants, and tallied a 1-2 record and 3.24 ERA. According to Baseball Reference, Cahill also yielded a 32.2 percent ground-ball rate in 2020, marking it the lowest in his career.
The right-hander was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the 2nd round of the 2006 amateur draft and made his debut in 2009. He made the AL All-Star team in 2010 as a member of the A’s and finished the year ninth in the Cy Young Award race.
