IUP has received over $2 million from the Department of Education that will help fund their SOAR program.
The $2,097,074 grant will support two broad goals of the university in the Student Opportunity for Achievement and Readiness program: improving retention and persistence rates for IUP’s Pell-eligible, first generation and underrepresented populations; and improving institutional structures and campus culture to be more proactive and responsive to the diverse needs of students. The grant funding is expected to augment established initiatives in IUP’s student success infrastructure, which started this past summer. Providing direct support as part of the program are student navigators, who are full time staffers who work with faculty, staff, academic advisors and other campus resources to assist students.
The money is expected to arrive during the current academic year and will help fund the program for an additional four years.
