Pennsylvania US Senator Bob Casey and seven of his colleagues are requesting President Joe Biden to prioritize stopping the flow of Fentanyl and other drugs coming in from the Southern border.
In the letter sent to the President, Casey and the other senators said that he would like to see increased funding for the Deparmtent of Homeland Security to secure ports along the southwest border. US Customs and Border Protection data shows that drugs are overwhelmingly being smuggled through ports of entry, especially in Arizona and California. Smugglers are able to hide the drugs in a variety of items, including seat cushions, car batteries, metal walkers and bicycle frames.
In the joint letter, the senators said that they would like to see additional customs agents to increase screening and processing at those ports of entry, and acquire non-invasive inspection technology to stop smugglers from getting drugs into the country.
