The Steelers have signed kick returner Ray-Ray McCloud to a one-year contract. McCloud was picked up from Carolina prior to the start of last season and averaged 10.3 yards on punt returns and 23.1 yards on kick returns. He also caught 20 passes on offense.
The NFL has awarded the Steelers a fourth-round compensatory draft pick, the 141st overall, for free agent losses sustained last year.
The league also set the salary cap at $182.5 million for next season. The Steelers are $6.1 million below the cap right now after restructuring the contract of fullback Derek Watt to gain an extra $880,000 in cap space yesterday. Several other players could get their deals restructured to free up more money, but the Steelers will have significantly less to spend on free agents than their AFC North rivals.
