In Pittsburgh yesterday, the Homeless Children’s Education Fund held a ceremony to award five high school graduates $5,000 awards to further their education. Two of those students will be studying at IUP.
The “Hope Through Learning Award” is given to a students who are pursuing higher education and have experienced homelessness at some point in their lives. This year’s recipients will get $5,000 over two years for any expenses associated with their education, from tuition to meal plans.
Charles Coleman will be studying mechanical engineering and applied statistics at IUP, and Cierra Beck will major in sociology at IUP, with hopes to one day become a therapist at a correctional facility.
The Homeless Children’s Education Fund is a non-profit agency based in Pittsburgh.
