The Penguins are now on a three-game winning streak after defeating the New York Rangers, 4-2, Tuesday night.
After finding themselves trailing 1-0 halfway through the first period, Jake Guentzel evened up the scoring with two minutes to go. Pittsburgh would add two to their scoring column after a shorthanded goal by Teddy Blueger and Kasperi Kapanen’s seventh goal of the season put them up 3-1 after two. The Rangers would fight back in the third after a Ryan Strome goal put them within one, but Sidney Crosby would ice the game late in the third, giving him his ninth goal of the season and the Pens a 4-2 victory.
Tristan Jarry would become the star of the night, however, as he made two crucial saves in the third period that prevented the Rangers from rallying back. On the night, Jarry would tally 19 saves on 22 attempts, with six of them being short-handed saves.
After the game, Coach Mike Sullivan said Jarry’s saves came in a timely manner.
And while Jarry played a pivotal role in stopping the Rangers, Sullivan said they need to do a better job in shutting down late opportunities.
Crosby commented on the team’s success as of late, saying that speed and a healthy squad were the main contributors.
The Penguins have off on Wednesday and they’ll return to the ice on Thursday to start a two-game series with the Buffalo Sabres.
