With the Steelers in their bye week, things were pretty quiet around the team’s headquarters on the South Side yesterday, with the assistant coaches holding sway.
Quarterbacks coach Mike Sullivan spent a good deal of time talking about the development of Kenny Pickett, who has struggled with inconsistent play in his second season. Sullivan says young quarterbacks have a lot to overcome when they reach the NFL.
The Steelers’ linebacker coaches also were talking yesterday. The outside ‘backers, TJ Watt and Alex Highsmith, were expected to be great, and they have been. But inside linebacker has been a problem in the last few seasons. The team seems to have hit the mark this season with three new inside men, Cole Holcomb, Elandon Roberts, and Kwan Alexander. Coach Aaron Curry says the three veterans know their stuff.
There were several players at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex yesterday but most of the team was gone. On the injury front, there was new optimism that tight end Pat Freiermuth will be ready to return from his hamstring injury when the Steelers play the Rams on October 22nd.

- The Colts have placed rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson on injured reserve with a right shoulder injury. He’s expected to miss between four and eight weeks.
