After a week of searching the Quemahoning Reservoir in Somerset County, dive and water rescue teams still have not recovered the missing Ligonier Valley teen who is now presumed drowned.
The Tribune-Review reports that crews were on at the reservoir for a fifth day on Friday continuing their search for 18-year-old Joey Dubics, the former running back and team captain with the Ligonier Valley Rams football team. On Monday, he was paddleboarding with his friends and dove in to recover a hat and sunglasses that fell in the water.
Dubic’s family has been out to the reservoir since the report of their missing son on Monday, staying in campers that have been donated to the family. People have also been donating food and beverages to the family and to first responders. Dubic’s teammates have also made regular visits, and a Ligonier Valley flag stands alongside an American flag on the shoreline. The team-mates have also planted two donated trees to the park in Dubic’s memory.
The park also plans to have a memorial plaque to Dubic installed.
The area remains closed as search efforts are expected to resume today.
