A man charged with a carjacking in Blairsville that left a woman injured will go before District Judge Robert Belle, Sr. today for a preliminary hearing.
36-year-old Michael Whitfield of Greensburg is due today to face charges filed in Indiana County as part of a crime spree on July 12th of this year. Police said that he attacked a woman in the parking lot of Keeper of the Flame in Blairsville, cutting her face and neck with a box cutter before taking her SUV. A nine-year-old was in the SUV when Whitfield started to drive off but bailed out as the vehicle started to drive away. He fled the scene, allegedly stopping in Derry area to rob an ice cream shop and BBQ Food Wagon before ditching the SUV and taking a pickup truck and leaving the area. He was found in Georgia the next day.
In Indiana County, he is charged with attempted homicide, attempted kidnapping and attempted kidnapping of a minor; robbery to inflict serious injury; robbery of a motor vehicle; two counts of aggravated assault; terroristic threats and two counts of reckless endangerment. He also faces charges in Westmoreland County.
