The newly-rebuilt Pittsburgh Penguins looked too much like the old Penguins last night, unable to hold a lead and a toothless power play, as they dropped the first game of the season, to the Chicago Blackhawks. Paul Steigerwald has the recap.
Coach Mike Sullivan says the defense was too soft after the Pens built the 2-0 lead.
Sullivan says it was a poor showing by the Pens and not the type of hockey he wants his team to play.
The coach says the Penguins showed some promise but overall it was a poor start to the season.
The Penguins’ power play was 0-for-2. Sidney Crosby says it was not what it could have been, or what he expects that it will be.
Goaltender Tristan Jarry stopped 32 of 35 shots. He says the Penguins can use the game to get better.
Next up for the Pens is a Friday night game in Washington against Alexander Ovechkin and the Metro Division rival Capitals.
