GIRLS TENNNIS
In front of a packed crowd yesterday at the White Township Recreation Complex courts, the fourth-seeded Indiana girls tennis team knocked 13th seed Central Valley out of the WPIAL Double-A playoffs. Indiana’s Anna Buterbaugh lost a tight match against Rachel Hardek at #1 singles, 2-6, 4-6. But Tess Kuzneski won at #2 singles, 6-4, 6-1 over Sara Miloszewski and Eve Kuzneski won at #3, 6-2, 6-2 over Claire Miloszewski. Indiana also dominated both doubles matches, with Grace Cook and Kate Lehman winning their match 6-1, 6-0, and Katarina Medvetz and Johanna Welch taking their match, 6-2, 6-3.
Indiana is back on the home court on Thursday at 3 PM against fifth seeded Hampton, which eliminated South Park, 5-0.
GOLF
The Indiana Boys Golf team advanced to the WPIAL Team Finals after placing second out of nine teams in one of the semi-finals that was played at the Links at Spring Church on Tuesday. Indiana shot a 398, counting the best five out of six scores. Peters Township (392) edged Indiana by six strokes. Butler also advanced to the finals, finishing two strokes behind Indiana. Senior Trevor Todd led Indiana with a 1-over 73. Todd made fifteen consecutive pars to start his round, bogeyed 16 and 17 and rebounded for a birdie on 18. Fellow senior Harrison Martineau made four birdies to shoot 75. Ryan Bell shot 81, Philip Bell 83, and Ash Lockard 86. Philip Bell’s round was highlighted by a hole-out from 80 yards for an eagle on the par four 8th.
In the other semifinal, North Allegheny, Fox Chapel, and South Fayette also advanced. The WPIAL Final will be tomorrow at Cedarbrook Gold Golf Course in Belle Vernon.
VOLLEYBALL
West Shamokin took over first place in the Heritage Conference West with a 3-0 win over Marion Center. The scores were 25-19, 25-12, and 25-18. The Wolves are now 11-2 in the West, with the Stingers at 10-3.
The third place team in the West is Homer-Center, which is 9-3 and plays West Shamokin tomorrow night in Numine. The Wildcats swept River Valley, 3-0, by scores of 25-22, 25-18, and 25-20. Meegan Williams led Homer-Center with 14 kills and 12 digs, Alaina Fabin added 5 kills and 3 blocks, Ashlyn Kerr had 6 kills and Hannah Arone added 25 assists.
JR HIGH FOOTBALL
The Indiana Junior High football team lost to Elizabeth Forward, 32-12. Indiana’s Jason Strack threw two touchdown passes, a 12-yard toss to Jace Brocious and a 30-yard hookup with Davis Putt. Indiana’s Will Steve had an interception.
