Pennsylvania’s average per-gallon cost of gasoline continues to go up along with the average for Indiana County.
As of this morning, Triple A reports that Pennsylvania has an average of $2.96 a gallon, up three cents from last week, 20 cents from a month ago and 34 cents from a year ago. The national average this morning is also on the upswing to $2.75 a gallon. The rise in gas prices is due to the rising cost of crude oil, tightening gas supplies, and increased demand for gasoline. Total domestic gas stocks went down by 13.6 million barrels to 243.5 million barrels and demand increased from about 7.2 million barrels to 8.5 million over the last week.
In Indiana County, the average is now $2.98 a gallon, an increase over last week of about two cents. None of the surrounding counties has their average below $2.90, but the lowest average in the region remains in Westmoreland County with $2.92 a gallon. Next highest was Armstrong County with $2.95 a gallon. Clearfield County has an average of $2.97 a gallon, while Cambria and Jefferson counties are tied for the highest averages at $2.99 a gallon.
As of this morning, gas prices are hovering between $2.95 and $2.99 in Indiana Borough and White Township. In Homer City, Center Township, Blairsville, Black Lick Township and Clymer, prices are at $2.99 a gallon.
