On last night’s edition of Hawk Talk on Renda Digital TV and U92 radio, IUP coach Paul Tortorella talked about the team’s second straight loss, to Cal U on Saturday, and about the loss of his starting quarterback, Karst Hunter. IUP had the lead early and was tied with Cal at 13-13 when Hunter left the game with a knee injury, and Tortorella says Cal changed its approach, rushing aggressively against the inexperienced Nico Marchitelli.
The coach says he expected that his offense would take a while to come together this season, but he didn’t anticipate that the defense would let IUP down.
Tortorella says IUP, at 3-3, will have a tough time this Saturday against 2-4 Edinboro, which is coached by his former assistant, Jake Nulph.
The Edinboro roster includes two former Heritage Conference standouts, West Shamokin’s Bo Swartz and River Valley’s Angelo Bartolini.
