Citizens in Homer City will get the chance to meet tonight with people who want to bring a halfway house to the area.
In September, organizers with Morningstar Ministries of Cherry Tree made a presentation to the Center Township Supervisors concerning their want to put in a “Cathy’s Hope” halfway house along Yankeetown Avenue. The 24-hour facility would be for women only, and patients would be admitted there only after they have completed a 28-day detox period. The facility would house up to 12 clients. “Cathy’s Hope” representatives said one of the reasons they wanted to bring the halfway house there was because there were no such facilities in Indiana County.
The Center Township Supervisors have expressed their reluctance to the facility in the township due to its proximity to places that sell alcohol, along with it being close to a school and other places where children are known to gather. They requested that the group meet with the community to hear their concerns.
That meeting will be held tonight at the Homer City Fire Hall at 6:30 PM. Organizers want to be ready to open by next March.
