Statistically, the Steelers lost the battle yesterday to the Baltimore Ravens…everywhere except on the scoreboard. The Ravens had the advantage in rushing yards, passing yards, and first downs, but the Steelers scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter and came from behind to beat Baltimore, 17-10.
The Steelers’ defense looked as if they would be run right off the field in the first half, but they allowed only 91 total yards and no points in the final two quarters. They sacked Ravens’ star Lamar Jackson four times, including a strip sack by Alex Highsmith that T.J. Watt recovered. Joey Porter Jr. intercepted Jackson in the end zone after Gunner Olszewski had fumbled away a punt, and Miles Killebrew blocked a punt early in the fourth quarter, with the ball rolling out of the end zone for a safety.
Coach Mike Tomlin says it was a hard-hitting, physical game.
Linebacker TJ Watt credited Tomlin for getting his young players ready to face the intensity of the Steelers/Ravens rivalry.
Taking the ball with 4:06 left in the fourth quarter, the Steelers mounted an 80-yard drive, with Pickett completing 4 out of 6 passes for 78 yards, the game-winning touchdown coming on a 41-yard toss to George Pickens, who was in one-on-one coverage with Ravens’ cornerback Marlon Humphrey on the right sideline with 1:23 left in the game. Watt then ended the Ravens’ hopes with a fourth down sack of Jackson to seal the win.
Kenny Pickett says the Steelers offense was riding the roller coaster yesterday.
Pickett says the Steelers’ offense, which was terrible for three quarters and terrific in the fourth, still has a lot of work to do.
George Pickens is happy the Steelers can enter their bye week in first place in the AFC North because of the win.
The Steelers will enjoy the week of rest and hope to get some of their injured players back for the game October 22nd in Los Angeles against the Rams.
Elsewhere in the AFC North, the Bengals beat the Cardinals, 34-20. The Browns are in their bye week.
