Charges have been filed in connection with the crash that killed a Blairsville woman who was driving a school bus for the Derry Area School District.
60-year-old Wesley White was charged with vehicular homicide along with five summary traffic violations in connection with the crash on Route 22 in Derry Township that killed 54-year-old Deborah Bopp of Blairsville, who drove a bus for Smith Bus Company. Police say in April of 2017, White was driving a tri-axle dump truck filled with stone when the truck rear-ended the bus as Bopp slowed down to pick up a student. The force of the impact threw Bopp from the bus, despite her wearing a seatbelt. Police say that the evidence they collected over the last year that the crash could have been avoided.
A warrant is out for White. Police are working on getting him into custody so he can answer to the charges. A date for a preliminary hearing has not been set.
