The PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources recently issued its second fall foliage report for 2023, and while most counties are starting to see some difference in color, some have already eclipsed their best color of the fall.
Areas already in their “best color” are McKean, Potter, Tioga, Bradford, Susquehanna and Wayne Counties located in the north and northeastern part of the state.
Like most of the southern part of the state, Indiana County falls under the “Starting to Change” category. The only exception is Somerset County, which is classified as “approaching best color.”
Officials with the DCNR say the recent stretch of warm weather has slowed the transition of color across the state, but the expected cooldown this weekend could kickstart a strong progression of color throughout the Penn’s Woods area.
