The Penguins yesterday placed Alex Nylander, Andreas Johnsson, and Joona Koppanen on waivers. If they are not claimed by another team by two o’clock this afternoon, they will be eligible to be assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
The Pens also assigned forwards Sam Poulin, Valtteri Puustinen, Rem Pitlick, and Avery Hayes, and defensemen Ty Smith and Xavier Ouellet to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
The Pens have 31 active players on their roster after yesterday’s moves, not counting four players on the injured list.
Defenseman P.O. Joseph returned to practice yesterday after missing two days with an undisclosed lower body injury.
The Penguins will play at Buffalo tonight in their final preseason game. All of the top players are scheduled to be in the lineup. They’ll dress thirteen forwards, seven defensemen, and two goalies. Jake Guentzel is still on the injured list and is not eligible to play.
More voices have been added to the Penguins’ TV crew. SportsNet Pittsburgh yesterday announced that it has hired former Penguins forward Bryan Trottier and former defenseman Matt Bartkowski, a Mount Lebanon native who played for four teams in a 10-year NHL career. Bartkowski retired after spending the last two seasons playing in the American Hockey league.
The Hall of Famer Trottier won two of his six Stanley Cups playing for the Penguins, in 1991 and 1992. He and Bartkowski join a stable of color commentators that includes Phil Bourque, Colby Armstrong, Jay Caufield, and Mike Rupp.
