According to multiple media sources, Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi has benched quarterback Phil Jurkovec and will start Christian Veilleux Saturday against 25th-ranked Louisville. Pitt has not made any official pronouncement, but teammates reported that Jurkovec told them about the benching at a players-only meeting yesterday and offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti Jr. spoke with them about it later.
Pitt is 1-4 with Jurkovec as the starter since transferring to the Panthers from Boston College for his senior season. Veilleux is also a transfer, a redshirt sophomore from Penn State. He’s played in relief of Jurkovec in the Wofford and North Carolina games.
