Indiana Borough Council met last night and among the topics of discussion was the issue of discrimination.
The point was brought up as Borough Council Vice President Gerald Smith said that during a recent “Welcome Mat” event at IUP, a parent had expressed concerns on ethnic discrimination in Indiana Borough. A few years ago, borough council issued a proclamation declaring the borough a “welcoming community” and Smith wants the borough to continue to promote that message. The borough is starting efforts for some anti-discrimination classes for police. A proposal was also brought up that a portion of the borough’s website be dedicated to that effort, and information can be placed there for people to find if they feel they’ve been discriminated against.
In other business, the borough approved a motion to re-install nine borough parking meters on South Seventh Street at the former Giant Eagle Express.
