The Indiana Area School District says it has been notified of positive covid-19 tests for a student-teacher at the high school, and for a student-athlete on the boys’ basketball team.
Superintendent Mike Vuckovich says that typically, both would be counted toward the rolling 14-day count, but because of Monday’s school cancellation, combined with the previous weekend’s cleaning and contact protocols, there are still no active cases that apply to the count. Vuckovich adds that because Indiana County is in the “moderate” phase, the district’s attestation does not apply to its case counts, and therefore the school can remain open.
Because of the hybrid schedule, the basketball player did not physically attend any classes while he was contagious, so there was no direct exposure to any other students or staff during the school day. However, all team members and the three coaches who were exposed are required to quarantine and all boys’ basketball activities are suspended until further notice. Coach and athletic director Greg Lezanic has been in contact with the teams Indiana played on Friday and Saturday.
Indiana Area is the only district to report a positive case yesterday. On Monday, Penns Manor reported a case in an elementary school student who had last been in school last Wednesday.
