The Penguins take on the Washington Capitals tonight and they are inching toward becoming a much healthier team. Coach Mike Sullivan said yesterday that three injured players, Brian Dumoulin, Jared McCann, and Evan Rodrigues, are skating again, and defenseman Juuso Riikola practiced with the team with no restrictions yesterday. Riikola and McCann accompanied the team to Washington.
Right wing Kasperi Kapanen skated with Sidney Crosby’s line in practice yesterday after being benched on Saturday night against the Islanders. Sullivan said the two had talked, and they were “on the same page”.
Sullivan said the quirks of scheduling that have seen the Pens play only the Islanders and Capitals lately are just something they have to deal with, and in the highly-competitive NHL East, you know you’re getting a tough game no matter who you’re facing.
While the explosive Capitals offense is always talked about, Sullivan says the restrictive left-wing-lock defense makes it difficult to get scoring opportunities for Caps opponents.
The airtime for tonight’s game is 6:00 on 92.5 FM U92 and the U92 Sportschannel.
