Less than a year after retiring as the chancellor of the State System of Higher Education, Frank Brogan has a new job. The U.S. Senate on Monday confirmed Brogan as the new U.S. Assistant Secretary for Elementary and Secondary Education.
Brogan left the State System last September 1st and was succeeded by former Clarion University President Karen Whitney, whose term as interim chancellor will end September 1st by the new Dr. Daniel Greenstein, who formerly led the Postsecondary Success strategy at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Brogan began his career in education as an elementary school teacher, before holding administrative posts as a principal, superintendent, education commissioner in Florida, chancellor of that state’s public university system, and president of Florida Atlantic University before coming to Pennsylvania five years ago. He is also a former lieutenant governor of Florida. He will be the principal adviser on elementary and secondary education to Education Secretary Betsy DeVos.
