The Indiana County Commissioners this (Wednesday) morning authorized the Office of Planning and Development to file a grant application for the proposed Indiana County Education Center.
The center, which would be located out of the ICTC, would be a regional learning facility for use by county school students, adult learners, and would include elements from IUP, Westmoreland County Community College, the ICTC, and would also house a proposed Challenger Learning Center. County Commissioner Rod Ruddock, a former principal in the Indiana School District, said he was excited for this project.
The grant would be for an amount up to $3 million for eligible project costs. It does require a 50% match, which will be provided by state grants previously secured for the project, and local funds from project partners.
In other business, the commissioners approved the purchase of a drone for the county’s Emergency Management Agency at a cost of $19,699 from Steel City Drones. The drone will be used for various purposes including assisting with search and rescue missions, monitoring the status of their tower, and examination of areas in hazmat situations.
