Two more area school boards are expected to finalize their budgets for the new fiscal year. The Indiana Area School Board, though, has a bit of work to do before taking a vote on a spending plan.
Last month, the board approved a preliminary budget in the amount of $55.6 million dollars, with no tax increase. Before taking a final vote, there is a motion before the board to raise taxes by one percent, and dedicate the money raised to security, particularly at the elementary schools. The agenda also includes the ICTC budget. Indiana Area’s share would be $814,881.
Other issues before the Indiana board tonight include a motion to withdraw from the Indiana Area Recreation and Parks Commission, an idea first proposed last winter. The other two administrative partners in the commission, Indiana Borough and White Township, both oppose the proposal, under which Indiana Area would instead use the services of the YMCA. There are also personnel items on the agenda, and several motions involving architectural issues at the elementary schools.
Marion Center has not published tonight’s agenda, but in light of last week’s work session, the board is expected to finalize a $24.6 million budget that includes a tax increase of .0856 mills. That’s three-quarters of one percent.
