Indiana County District Attorney Robert Manzi announced that a Latrobe man was sentenced yesterday for guilty pleas to charges of aggravated assault of a state trooper, fleeing or attempting to elude police and other crimes.
30-year-old Matthew Rebar was ordered to serve between two and five years in state prison for charges connected with an incident on February 25th of last year. Police were initially contacted by a woman who said that Rebar was coming to her home in White Township with the intention of having sexual relations with a 13-year-old girl. The woman was impersonating a teenager and no minors were involved in the incident. When a trooper approached his car, Rebar put it in gear and drove off, dragging a trooper with him.
The trooper suffered minor injuries. Police apprehended Rebar later on and determined he was under the influence of controlled substances, and he had marijuana and drug paraphernalia on his person.
Along with the aforementioned crimes, Rebar also pleaded guilty to reckless and careless driving, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Last Friday, Rebar requested that his guilty pleas be rescinded. That request was denied by Judge Michael Clark.
