The Indiana Area School District is developing a summer enrichment/acceleration program for students in grades K through 5, focusing on mathematics and literacy.
The program would run in two sessions, in June and in late July/early August, and parents would have the option of enrolling their children in one or both of them. It will be based at the Junior High School from around 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM, with free breakfast, lunch, and transportation provided.
In a letter to the district’s families, Superintendent Michael Vuckovich says the program will be educational and fun, with school district teachers and activities led by the YMCA of Indiana County. He also says the district will still offer summer school for secondary students, as always.
The district has posted an interest survey it is asking parents to fill out (www.iasd.cc), along with a video featuring Horace Mann Principal Krista Sevajian explaining the concept and the options that will be offered. They are asking that surveys be completed by Monday, March 1st.
