A Republican from Washington, PA has announced his intent to run for U.S. Senator Bob Casey’s seat.
David McCormick made his run for office official at an event yesterday at the Heinz History Center in Pittsburgh. Casey’s seat will come up on the ballot in next year’s elections. McCormick, who has family connections in the Plumville area, was the former CEO of Bridgewater Associates. He has served as the undersecretary of the Treasury for International Affairs under President George W. Bush, and was also the Deputy National Security Advisor for international affairs and the Under Secretary of Commerce for Industry and Security. In 2022, he ran for the Republican nomination for US Senator Pat Toomey’s seat, but lost in the primary election to Dr. Mehmet Oz, who in turn lost to current Senator John Fetterman.
So far, he is the only major contender announced for the Republican nomination for Casey’s position. Casey is running for re-election as a Democrat.
