IUP takes a 2-1 record into tomorrow’s PSAC West opener at Mercyhurst with all of its preseason goals still in play. Mercyhurst is 1-2, with losses to number-one ranked Ferris State in its first game, and to Kutztown, 47-17, last week.
Coach Paul Tortorella says there’s no need to warn his team about looking past Mercyhurst to the next two weeks, when they play big rivals Slippery Rock and Cal U. The coach says Mercyhurst can move the ball offensively and their defense is stout, too.
IUP is 37-2 in PSAC West openers going back to 1983, the only losses coming on the road at Mercyhurst in 2009 and Slippery Rock in 2011.
PITT/PENN STATE
Pitt travels to ACC rival North Carolina tomorrow night, airing on WCCS at 6:30.
Penn State plays Iowa at Beaver Stadium tomorrow night.
