CROSS COUNTRY
For the first time since 2010 – and after 90 straight wins – Marion Center’s girls have lost a Heritage Conference cross country meet.
The United girls topped the Stingers and West Shamokin in a tri-meet at West Shamokin yesterday. Marion Center beat West Shamokin. Marion Center’s Lydia Miller finished first overall, followed by United’s Olivia Henning and West Shamokin’s Jasmine Lucullo. Rounding out the top five were United’s Sara Gorsnick and Chloe Stiles.
For the boys, Marion Center finished first, edging second place United, with West Shamokin third.
United’s Colton Henning was the top finisher, followed by Marion Center’s Evan Risinger. The rest of the top five were United’s Dallas Pearce, and Marion Center’s Seth Boring and JJ Ferraro.
The Junior High teams also ran, with Marion Center first, United second, and West Shamokin third. For the girls, it was United, Marion Center, and West Shamokin.
BOYS GOLF
Congratulations to West Shamokin’s Alex Talmadge for winning the District 6 Double-A Sectional yesterday at the Ebensburg Country Club. Talmadge shot even par 71 for a three-stroke victory over golfers from Bishop Carroll and Central Martinsburg.
Other Heritage Conference golfers to qualify for next Tuesday’s District 6 Championship at Scotch Valley Country Club in Hollidaysburg are:
- Brady Houser of Northern Cambria, who finished 4th.
- Jake Pynos of River Valley (10th)
- Jeremy Reed of River Valley (15th)
- Logan Geist of West Shamokin (16th)
- Gunnar Shoop of West Shamokin (23rd)
- Trae Kargo of Portage (27th)
- Max Persichetti of River Valley (28th)
GIRLS GOLF
Indiana closed out its season with a 202-231 loss to Norwin. Indiana was led once again by Izzy Slagle, who shot a 50. Peyton Scott shot 56, Evangeline Pangonis 58 and Courtney Cass 67.
Indiana made steady progress throughout the season, posting scores of 287, 286, and 286 in its early matches and posting in the 220s and 230s by the end.
BOYS SOCCER
Berlin Brothersvalley scored five goals in the second half to break open their game against United and top the Lions, 8-2. United’s goals were scored by Brad Kiesel in the first half and Gideon Bracken in the second half.
