Indiana Borough council will meet tonight and one part of the meeting will focus on the borough’s parking fund.
On the proposed agenda for tonight is a resolution to commit to a fiscal strategy to make the parking fund solvent. The strategy’s key part will be the authorization of up to $75,000 from the borough’s general fund to be made available for the parking fund during the 2021 budget year. Any funds that are transferred would be paid back to the general fund by December 31st of 2024 at a simple interest rate of 2 percent.
Another financial matter is on council’s proposed agenda. Council will take a look at a resolution that would extend the payment of local real estate taxes at face value until the end of the year and forego the payment of penalties or interest for 2021. This is similar to moves made by both county government and other municipal governments.
Borough Council will also take a look at hiring a new police officer. The new hire comes on the heels of the retirement of Detective Scott Schuller after 26 years of service. Council will look to hire Hunter Scherf, the son of Borough Police Detective John Scherf, but the hiring is consistent with the borough’s policy on hiring relatives. His first day of work would be April 1st, contingent on his acceptance of the offer. The hire would be a conditional hire, as he would undergo a yearlong probationary period before a full time offer is extended.
The meeting starts at 7:00 tonight and will be held over Zoom video chat. To join the meeting, use the information below.
