Two local organizations are binding together to raise awareness for homeless veterans.
Beginning at 8 a.m. today, The Veterans Parsonage – a non-profit organization aiming to provide services to military veterans – and the Rho Tau Chi (PTX) Military Fraternity at IUP will hold a 24-hour “Sleep-Out” in front of the Indiana Wal-Mart to raise awareness and funds for the Parsonage and to shed light on the issue of homeless veterans across the nation.
PA Careerlink’s Kevin Lazor said in an interview that some changes needed to be made to make sure this annual event can occur with the on-going pandemic.
Lazor added that attendees can donate from their car, whether it’s food, hygiene items or a monetary donation.
Kristin Squires, a nursing student at IUP and the founder of the Indiana Pa. Veterans and Community United, is also involved in leading the sleep-out, and she said that the Indiana community has been very supportive in outreach projects such as this.
The Sleep-Out will go on until 8 a.m. on Sunday, February 14 and both organizations encourage residents to come out and donate all while enjoying food and hot beverages.
