IUP received news this past week that it is now a part of a select group of universities that provide specialized training courses for current and future federal intelligence employees.
The university announced this on its website on Thursday after it was selected in January by the U.S. Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF) Academic Consortium (UAC) to be part of a $5 million initiative that is scheduled to run through 2025.
IUP was just one of 11 universities selected that offers geospatial intelligence courses that facilitate the transformation of the analytic workforce into a data-savvy, technologically adept workforce of the future.
John Benhart, a faculty member and department chair for the university’s Department of Geography and Regional Planning, said that the selection is just another step in demonstrating that IUP is “providing its students with the wider national intelligence community with advanced capabilities in sought-after, high-demand employment sectors.”
IUP was accredited in this program in 2019 and only 17 universities across the U.S. are GEOINT-accredited programs.
