The Homer City borough council accepted the resignations of two part-time police officers at Tuesday night’s meeting.
Due to a recent policy change within the Indiana County Sheriff’s office, the department’s employees are no longer permitted to work anywhere else during their employment. As a result, two of the Homer City Police Department’s part-time officers, who work full-time in the Sheriff’s office, expressed regret in resignation letters they sent to the borough office.
Police chief Anthony Jellison said the resignations of officers Jody Gaston and John Compardo will be felt throughout the borough:
“It’s a significant blow to us and the community. I’m sure all the communities in Indiana County are going to feel the effects of the new order, but… Homer City pride, Homer City strong. We’ll get through it.”
The resignations leave the Homer City police department with one full-time officer and two part-time officers. Chief Jellison hopes to fill the positions soon:
“We’re currently looking for certified officers to fill the positions. If anybody’s interested, please come down and fill out an application.”
Jellison said also that he would like to remind residents of the grass cutting ordinance and to keep their lawns from becoming unsightly. He reminds residents also that curfew is 11 PM for anyone under 18 years of age.
In other news, the council awarded the bid for the summer’s paving projects to Sharp Paving in the amount of $ 32,370.25. According to Borough Manager Rob Nymick, the bid is $8.50 cheaper per ton of material than estimated.
