Pitt could never quite catch up to Cincinnati on Saturday as the Panthers lost to the Bearcats, 27-21.
Cincinnati raced to a 27-7 lead after three quarters before Pitt rallied for two scores, but Phil Jurkovec could not lead them all the way back, as he admittedly could not find his rhythm and the offense fizzled when it had the chance to complete the comeback. Jurkovec threw three touchdowns passes, two to wide receiver Konata Mumpfield and one to tight end Gavin Bartholomew. But the new Pitt quarterback also lost a fumble, suffered five sacks, and was only 10-of-32 passing.
The Pitt defense also gave up 217 rushing yards to the Bearcats.
Pitt returns to the field next Saturday night in Morgantown against West Virginia in the Backyard Brawl.
