IUP looks for its second win tomorrow afternoon when the Crimson Hawks take on East Stroudsburg in the Hall of Fame Game at George P. Miller Stadium. 13th-ranked IUP beat Ashland last week, 24-17 while East Stroud opened with a 62-9 rout of Pace.
Coach Paul Tortorella says East Stroud is a very good football team.
Tortorella was disappointed in the performance of his kicking and kick coverage teams, so IUP has been working on those two key areas this week.
IUP has won seven straight games against East Stroudsburg, and won 38-35 last year. Tortorella is looking for win number 50 in game number 61 of his career and would become the second fastest to achieve the milestone in IUP history. Frank Cignetti did it in 59 games.
The 2023 IUP Athletics Hall of Fame class will be inducted tomorrow. This year’s class includes football players Chris Morgan and Kerry Yacamelli, baseball player Paul Bingham, baseball and football player Donald Lindich, basketball players Megan Woodall and Derrick Freeman, volleyball’s Michelle Jones, women’s lacrosse player Jackie Rutkowski, track & field’s Brianna Liebold, cross country runner Nicholas Yutko (who will be inducted posthumously), athletic trainers Ron and Frank Trenney, and the 1968 men’s golf team. Dr. Jack and Jeannette Frank will be honored as Honorary Bell Ringer, and Bill Otto will be recognized for his years of service as the football and basketball public address announcer.
