The Pirates open a three-game series in Atlanta tonight against the Braves, who have the best record in baseball. It’s a good pitching matchup, with Mitch Keller (11-8, 3.93 ERA) goings against the Braves’ Bryce Elder (11-4, 3.42 ERA). The game will not be on WCCS due to Homer-Center football against River Valley.
Paul Skenes says he is fine with the Pirates decision to shut him down for the season and begin his preparations for next year. The top overall draft pick met with the media yesterday and Skenes says his goal remains to get to Pittsburgh as early as possible, perhaps by Opening Day. He acknowledged that the Pirates have their plans for him and “It’s all going to work out in the end.”
The Curve beat Harrisburg last night, 9-3. Sean Sullivan got the win with seven innings on four-hit ball, striking out three, walking none, and giving up one unearned run. Jackson Glenn hit a three-run home run, Jacob Gonzalez was 3-for-4 with a double and two run-scoring singles, and Joe Perez and Tsung-Che Cheng each had two hits.
Bubba Chandler makes his Double-A debut on the mound for the Curve tonight.
